Many of our children join St John the Baptist in the Nursery, aged three. A place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the main school however. We encourage all our families with children in nursery to apply for a place in our Reception. Children meeting the local authority’s entry requirements move on to Reception. As we have two classes in Reception, we do have plenty of places for children who don’t attend our nursery.

You can go to the Childcare Choices website at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk to get information about the different types of services and support available to parents. You can also access the 30 hours checker through here.
Reception class admission arrangements
St John the Baptist is governed by Hackney’s admission procedures. A copy of the admission form for Reception is available on the Hackney Learning Trust website.
Please click on the links below for copies of our admission policies:
The Hackney Learning Trust are responsible for setting the admission arrangements for all schools for which they are the Admission Authority – that is, community and voluntary controlled schools in the borough.
For voluntary-aided schools, academies, foundation schools or free schools each school governing body or Academy Trust is their own admission authority.
Applying for a reception class
If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, they are due to start primary school in September 2017.
The closing date for applying for your child’s primary school place is 15 January 2017.
For further information, please click here.
From time to time, we also have vacancies in other year groups. We encourage visits to the school for prospective families.
