Diane Abbott Visit / New Prefects

Year 2 have been learning about ‘Women who change the world’ and as part of this they have been studying about Diane Abbott who was the first female black MP to be elected into Parliament. She is currently the Shadow Home Secretary and MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington. She was first elected as an MP in the 1987 general election.

Today, after being invited by Year 2, Diane Abbott came in to SJB to talk to Holly and Cherry Tree Class. She first spoke to Year 2 about her determination to succeed despite barriers, and what she hopes to achieve in Hackney in the future. During the morning assembly, this year’s Year 6 Prefects were announced. Each Prefect received their badges from Diane Abbott. She also spoke about how the prefects are the next leaders of society and how we can be inspired by them.

Thank you Diane Abbott for taking your time to come in to SJB. Congratulations to our new prefects:
