Respect the Zebra

Our school council have been busy this year trying to make walking to school safer. The traffic on Pitfield Street does not always stop for pedestrians to allow them to cross on the zebra crossing. The school council have been collecting signatures for a petition to Hackney Council to hire a Crossing Patrol Officer. Thank you to all the adults who have signed the petition so far.

Collaborating with Hackney Council and Hackney Citizens UK, the children have designed a poster to encourage drivers and cyclists to stop for pedestrians at the crossing. Drivers and cyclists are asked to ‘Respect the Zebra’. The sign was unveiled last week at the head of Pitfield Street. The school council were joined by parents, a member of the Hackney Council and a Junior Road Safety Officer. Well done to the SJB council for their determination in fighting for a safer crossing.
