This week, years 1-6 have been visiting the Autograph ABP Gallery near Old Street to look at an exhibition on Windrush. The exhibition featured photographs of members of the Windrush generation, who travelled to the UK on the ship MV Empire Windrush between 1948 and 1971. They traveled from the Caribbean countries to assist with the labour shortages after World War II.
The children took part in workshops that focused on the Windrush generation and about the art of photography. Pupils were also asked to put themselves in the shoes of those travelling to the United Kingdom from the West Indies, and try to imagine what their lives would have been like.
